Some leaders hear more truth than others. If you as a leader spend more time trying to be understood than trying to understand, then there is a good chance you are dealing with a good amount of misleading information. There is a way you can test how you are doing on this. The next time you are talking to a direct report, pay attention to who is doing most of the talking. If it is you, this is not so good. If it is a direct report, you are on the way to the truth.
